Sales is Icky...Get over it

Feb 20, 2025

I’ve taken a lot of courses in the training, coaching, and fitness space.

 A lot.

Mostly because I’m always looking to advance my knowledge in this field and because I just generally find most of this shit really interesting.

Early in my career there was one part of these training courses I would either skip over or half-ass because I just didn’t care as much:

 Anything involving sales or marketing.

And if you’re like other trainers out there I bet you’re the same way.

You want to skip fast forward to the cool new training techniques or the advanced warmup protocols.

Because, ya know, training is cool and sales is icky.

Well, what’s not cool is having to scrape together rent money every month because you’re training business sucks the big one.

Or walking into consultation after consultation with no plan or idea of how to sell your services.

 Look, I get it.

You’re sick of hearing the “Everything is sales!  You have to sell yourself!” pitch.

 I’m sick of it, too.

But think about it this way – selling yourself is just having a conversation.

It’s just talking – with the guidance of a Playbook.

You don’t have to do anything special to be a great salesperson.

In fact I’m pretty sick of the constant content out there about how great salespeople think differently and have this next level emotional intelligence and all that bullshit.

 They don’t.

What great salespeople have is this:

  • A great (at least serviceable) product or service
  • A compelling offer
  • A prospect who is ready and willing to buy

You can make your service great by being the best trainer possible.

Shit, you don’t even need to be that great.

Personal Trainers are like pizza joints – even the shitty ones can still get the job done and make money.

You can make your offer compelling by effective pricing and creating scarcity.

And you can find willing and able prospects literally just by working in a big box gym.

The How to Client Clients and Keep Them Module in the PT Playbook Academy is by far the most important piece of the course.

If you want to jumpstart your training business please don’t skip it.
